“Finally, the moment many of us have been waiting a year for: Out of
more than 300 members that started the knit-a-long, only 27 members
finished al 6 socks in the time alloted and posted both a progress
and a completed photo. All these members deserve a prize but
unfortunately, we could only draw 3 names. The winners of the year
end raffle, our sock-knitting equivalent of an ironman compitition,
are:
The Final Raffle Grand Prize goes to: Karen in KY (kyknitterspinner)
2nd place winner is Amy (amyrea)
3rd place winner is Paula B (pjbknit)”
They are sending me a lovely gift

It’s official – summer is here.
Thank goodness the pool is fixed and functional once again!
I’ve washed some of the olive colored yarn in hanks and started working on a sweater. The worst of the smell is mostly gone, but I have to admit that the washing did take out some of the softness. The yarn also bloomed quite a lot so I’m guessing that the smell really was a ’spinning oil’ used to tame the fibers during the spinning process. Some of the SnB’ers said it smelled like normal wool to them or that maybe it was from a ram.
At the moment this sweater is for an un-specified person. I won’t say I believe in the ‘curse‘ but why take chances lol. I feel guilty working on it since it’s too hot out to be working with 100% wool and because I have so many almost finished projects. Funny how quickly I can put something away as soon as I see all those loose ends to weave in. The green pullover and Soleil both called for a crochet finishing which adds to my procrastination.

My Badger socks are in ICU.
This will be my first surgery experience as a sock parent.
I won’t post a current picture, it’s too traumatic.

I started knitting up swatches of some of the yarn I purchased at Webs when I noticed a very unfavorable smell. To me it smelled like rust and a damp garage. I really like the colors in these yarns and the way they knitted up – it would be a tragedy if I can’t get the smell out.
I asked my fellow SnB‘ers for advice so I’ve been trying several things:
- 1) Eucalan – didn’t work
- 2) Dawn – apple scented in hot water – worked some, softened a little, not crazy about the apple
- 3) putting a box of Baking Soda in with the cones – will check tomorrow
- 4) putting outside to air out – will try this weekend
- 5) Dreft detergent – will have to look for this one
I think I found the culprit tho – the ‘freebie’ cone I had picked up is the strongest of this smell. I wonder what history led to it’s tossing in the free bin…..
