The weekend went off with only one hitch – us!
I’ve received lots of compliments on the food, the service, the decorations – everything worked out great!
I did get a lovely new camera as a gift from my friends at work so as soon as I get back from cloud 9 I’ll post more pics of the party and knitting!

I finished the blue hat for my friend in Florida, and then immediately cast on for a second hat. I think I’m done with socks for a while – these hats are too cool!
So here’s some s(t)ock footage of yarn that might get re-incarnated in hats…………..
Back during the holidays I bought one of the sock yarn sampler packs from knitpicks. The holiday swaps had a max dollar limit so I had a few balls leftover out of the pack..

I started knitting up one of the colors, but I have to admit I’m not too thrilled with this yarn. It’s not very soft, and the dye sort of ’sits’ on top of the yarn – not saturated through it. I haven’t washed it yet so it may soften up later.

I keep forgetting to charge my camera battery and take pictures so here’s an old picture I found that I hadn’t written about…

This is the pillow that I was trying to finish in the car the moments before the turn-in deadline for the Durham fair last September. It now lives on the couch in the living room. Someday I’d like to undo the last seam and insert the smaller pillow form so that the corners aren’t so warped.

Miteres are fun to knit despite all the ends to weave in and the fact that I have to look up the spelling over and over again.

Saturday was the Knitters Breakfast at Fabric Place. This is a fun event but with so many people packed into the yarn department at the store it’s an absolute zoo. Throw in 25% off and $5 off coupons and it’s a stampede.
A few of us had decided a while back we needed to have a pre-tailgate for Mimosas and Irish Coffee – that made it worth getting up extra early and standing out in the cold a little longer.
I was very well behaved and only bought $4 worth of yarn – some green Pima Tencel for the stash or maybe to donate at an auction. This is my 3rd time going to a knitter’s breakfast and I finally won one of the raffle prizes. It was ten balls of pink and black fuzzy yarn that will also be for a donation – lol.
With my coupon I bought a yard of fleece to use for lining ski hats. I haven’t been able to find much in the way of sewing patterns for fleece liners so I’m going to have to wing it. The store bought one that I wear just has a strip of fleece for a headband and not a full liner. This was a great diversionary tactic at the knitter’s breakfast since it was a ghost town in the sewing and notions department. I think I was one of the last people to make it to the register before the early bird coupon expired.
I started on a ski hat – much much easier to do on a 12 inch circular needle than on DPNs. I’m not following a specific pattern, but if I ever do this again I will make sure to do a chain cast on with waste yarn for the cuff. It took me almost 2 hours just to tuck it under, pick up stitches and knit two together to rejoin the cuff – with a waste yarn that probably would have only taken ~15 minutes. Hat’s might become my new socks – mindless knitting projects – and great for using up the stash sock yarn.
Saturday night I finally got around to blocking the second of the green-stripes sweaters. I really hope this one fits when I’m done piecing it all together. It was odd – I had to block it to smaller dimensions than what it naturally held to when wet.

oh how cute
I need to figure out how to get a picture of the original eggs….
Here are the ones for next month:
On the kneedles: a swatch/sock using on of the 4-stitch repeats from Charlene Schurch’s book – Sensational Knitted Socks. I’m still trying to find the best way to show off Lornas Laces Aslan colorway.
I’ve been asked to make a ski hat for a friend… that will be a fun challenge!
